CHRISTIAN PADILLA

Christian Padilla is an art historian, researcher and independent curator specializing in Latin American art. His work explores the relationships between art, politics and power, and the role of images in shaping identities and collective memory. He holds a PhD in Society, Culture and Heritage and a master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Art History from the University of Barcelona.

A two-time recipient of Colombia’s art history essay prize, he is the author of El llamado de la tierra (2007) and La Guerra Fría Cultural en Colombia (2026). Other books that have made significant contributions to the study of Latin American art include Botero: The Search for a Style (1948–1963) (2020) and Arte del siglo XX en Colombia (contado en 12 obras) (2021). His curatorial projects include El joven maestro: Fernando Botero, obra temprana (2018) at the Museo Nacional de Colombia and Un arte propio: convergencias entre México y Colombia (2019) at the Museo de Arte del Banco de la República. Other curatorial projects have been presented in Spain, the United States, Paraguay, France and Germany. He is a professor at Universidad del Rosario and co-founder of BAU Editorial.
